Saving Sea Turtles
All sea turtle species in the Eastern Caribbean are vulnerable or endangered. Through our efforts to end sea turtle hunting and protect critical habitats, Oceans Forward is working to stabilize and recover these fragile populations.
Beaches throughout the Caribbean provide precious habitat for Leatherback, Green, and Hawksbill sea turtles to nest and hatch.

Our Goals for Sea Turtles
Stop turtle hunting in Dominica.
Establish protected areas for sea turtle population recovery.
Projects that Save Sea Turtles
-
We support 30 patrollers in protecting Dominica's beaches. Patrols help stop illegal hunting and move nests out of dangerous areas.
-
Working with local governments and communities we advocate for the protection of marine areas to keep turtles safe.
This includes working with real estate developers to ensure turtle safe lighting and beach modification procedures.
-
By working with DomSeTCo on flipper tagging and satellite/acoustic tagging networks, we are building an understanding of international turtle movements. This information allows us to be better advocates for sea turtle and habitat protection.
Our Partners in Sea Turtle Conservation
Since 2007, Oceans Forward has been working in close collaboration with Dominica’s Sea Turtle Conservation Organization Inc. (DomSeTCO) in their efforts to conserve sea turtles and provide sustainable livelihoods for coastal communities in Dominica. Their critical work includes a coordinated national conservation strategy.
Our Work Continues
We are working to restore coral reefs and build protections for whales. Learn more about our work to save and restore marine life in the Caribbean.
